So we just started studying King John as part of our Angevin empire topic, and I was joking with my friends about how John’s nephew Arthur, (who he killed because he was a rival to the throne,) might have actually been Arthur, the Once and Future King. And maybe he’d have totally sorted England out if John hadn’t killed him. (Because you know Arthur’s supposed to come back when England’s in great peril.)
Just another reason to dislike John, I suppose! But anyway, my teacher took me seriously, and we spent about ten minutes discussing how John might be the reincarnation of Mordred. Brilliant lesson! And that’s one of the reasons why I love History, because myths and legends always worm their way in somehow.
So this makes Eleanor of Aquitaine Yrgraine? Or Morgan le Fay? Either way I think I can see it.
(But seriously, if you are King or Queen of England (or indeed anywhere near to potentially becoming monarch), don’t name your heir Arthur. He’s gonna die.)
